UW Medicine is seeking an IT Profession to join our Radiology Informatics group. The ideal candidate would have experience working in IT support and training in a healthcare setting, especially in imaging. Ability to work with health professionals in a clinical environment is critical. Understanding informatics will be important.
The Radiology IT team performs a combination of user support, training, technical support and project work. This is a very dynamic, fast-moving environment with many challenges and rewards. The role will focus on application support of systems including our GE RIS (Radiology Information System), with some exposure to our digital imaging systems - GE PACS and GE ViewPoint.
A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required. The Senior Computing Specialist will provide support for the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) Program. The PACS is a diagnostic imaging system for UW Medicine. Imaging is done on roughly 70% of all patients for each episode of care. Along with lab, imaging is a key tool to diagnose disease and guide treatment. As of today, there are literally thousands of PACS installed and in operation worldwide. Most of these are working satisfactorily, and provide a more efficient and effective solution to manage medical images than was achieved with film-based solutions. Despite this, these PACS systems are now experiencing growing pains. As an example, there is an expanding need to serve not just the radiology department but also other departments and specialties. These can include departments such as cardiology, radiation therapy, dentistry, ophthalmology, endoscopy, and other specialties. As more departments seek access to PACS, the proper identification of patients and exams becomes an issue. Often, each department maintains its own patient and exam requisition system. Exam IDs (Accession Numbers) may or may not be used for identification, and patient IDs may be assigned by each department. There are also very different performance and storage requirements for each of the modalities in each of the departments. With these new demands, the importance of a well managed PACS will be to provide scalable image, information and life cycle management so that images and related information can be queried, stored, and retrieved in a manner that is defined by open standards at multiple department, enterprise, and regional levels while maintaining patient privacy and security.
The Senior Computing Specialist will implement GE RIS, PACS, PowerScribe 360, lifeIMAGE, ViewPoint and other associated technologies in the department, including HMC Radiology, UWMC Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, UWMC Roosevelt, the Eastside Clinic, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), Northwest Hospital and all affiliated clinics. The Senior Computing Specialist will perform user training, software installation and testing, and work with operational and clinical personnel to match technical assets with their requirements. The Senior Computing Specialist is responsible for working on large projects requiring a broad knowledge of all aspects of departmental operations. The Senior Computing Specialist is responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting a wide variety of problems, and will escalate issues appropriately to the right group, whether internal or external to the organization. They will promote an environment of Customer Service, in which the customer may be any number of individuals or groups both within and external to the Dept of Radiology.
