The Laboratory Medicine department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift, SENIOR COMPUTER SPECIALIST. This position will serve as a liaison between departmental IT staff and laboratory operations for the implementation of new computer systems. Duties include analyzing, designing, coordinating, and implementing requests for database modifications, and providing application support to users of the Laboratory Information System in
the Department of Laboratory Medicine. This position requires understanding the relationship between complex laboratory operations and LIS capabilities, caregiver requirements, test requirements, data requirements of multiple downstream systems, and data flow throughout the laboratory and Medical Centers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and modify test definitions, locations, worksheets, devices,
etc., as well as oversee modifications to the database made by the
laboratories. - Assist users in all Laboratory Medicine divisions as well as users
outside the department in determining how the LIS can best meet their
needs. - Maintain user security tables, monitor database integrity and
evaluate the impact of product liability alerts to laboratory
operations. - Design and create customized reports in support of both clinical and
research activities. - Assist all laboratory departments in assessing the impact of changes
to the system and in developing appropriate operational procedures to
ensure database integrity. - Coordinate database updates between multiple systems. Assist with
updates to the LIS, including routine test maintenance and software
overlays. - Resolve user computer and software problems. Report application or
network problems to appropriate sources. - Test and evaluate the impact of software modifications and updates to
laboratory operations and coordinate the implementation of major
software upgrades. - Perform project analysis for, and coordinate conversion and
implementation of major software upgrades, minor software updates, and
product liability alerts. - Create troubleshooting documentation and user training materials
- Perform work accurately, precisely and meet project completion
deadlines through efficient workload organization. - Demonstrate ability to work on and track status of multiple,
concurrent projects. - Exhibit understanding of departmental goals by appropriately
prioritizing projects.
Requirements:
BS in Medical Technology, Computer Science or a related field AND
Minimum 2 years experience working in a complex lab environment with laboratory computer systems.
