UW-IT has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Senior Information Security Advisor.
The Senior Information Security Advisor must be a highly experienced professional with strong subject matter expertise and skills to work effectively in a dynamic, demanding, and multifaceted environment. This person must possess a keen intellect and have a fundamental affinity for dealing with complex issues where many criteria matter to varying degrees to different constituencies.
This person will support the mission of the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) by supporting, advising, and advocating for risk-based information security management practices. This person will be part of a multi-disciplined team that works to: understand the information security risks associated with complex environments and information systems; effectively communicate those risks to both technical and non-technical audiences to add value and inform decision-making; researches cyber threats and provides relevant briefing; and creates tools to promote information security best practices. The person in this position will work cross-functionally with various business partners throughout the organization, collaborates with management on their respective teams, and fosters relationships to help drive information security principles.
The person in this position must be a facilitator with excellent interpersonal skills; a team player for whom the ownership of ideas is less important than the result of a collaborative effort. Possessing excellent written and oral communication skills, this individual is not only technically conversant but also able to support, mentor, teach and effectively influence diverse constituencies. The person in this position must have high standards and be very self-motivated. Flexibility, ingenuity, dedication, enthusiasm, and energy are key attributes of this individual.

The constituency of the Office of the CISO, and therefore that of this position, is the entire University. The Office of the CISO is dedicated to innovative, trusted, and reliable services that promote the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of institutional information, infrastructure technology, and information systems. It is a central office that oversees the strategic view of information security at the UW, and works proactively to assess and manage information security risks in partnership with executive management and UW departments. The services and tools of the Office of the CISO are designed to support the University's mission, raise awareness, and demonstrate a due care approach that optimizes administrative, technical, and operational safeguards.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, information management or related field
Four years of relevant experience and progressive responsibility working in an analyst or advising capacity in a large networked environment.
Strong written, verbal, and listening skills to effectively communicate with and advise technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong deductive reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to influence, motivate, persuade, mentor and train diverse groups or individuals.
Ability to conceptualize new ideas and complex technical matters quickly.
Ability to work with a diverse constituency, in collaborative groups, building consensus and fostering ongoing relationships.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
Experience with information security in higher education is preferred
Experience in the use of risk assessment frameworks, methodologies, and tools.
Professional certification is preferred (e.g., CISSP, CISA, CEH, GPEN, GSNA, GCIH, etc.)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations.
