The Systems and Database Analyst role ensures the security, stability and integrity of the I.T. systems infrastructure at the School of Dentistry. This is achieved by leading the planning, designing, implementation, and maintenance of the administrative, clinical, and research technology infrastructure. Managing infrastructure compliance, data backup procedures, hardware integration, software upgrades, and disaster recovery initiatives.

The Systems and Database Analyst is the lead person managing the architecture, installation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of all School of Dentistry administrative and clinical information technology systems and databases. They also hold primary responsibility for I.T. security in the School of Dentistry. The candidate will also be responsible for documenting and overseeing all processes and procedures relating to the operations and support in the environment. The person also has expertise in the maintenance of the Oracle database platform that underpins the axiUm system. This position supports the Dean, faculty, staff and students by establishing and managing a secure, HIPAA and FERPA compliant infrastructure and computing environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform server and database systems analysis and architecture design of new systems
  • Administer, analyze performance and maintain underlying Windows operating system and database (Oracle and MS SQL) platforms for the School’s axiUm dental electronic health record (EHR) and 2D and 3D dental imaging platforms including backup and disaster recovery
  • Design, manage and maintain the School’s delegated Active Directory NetID OU including Group Policy management
  • Manage the School's cloud infrastructure located in Microsoft Azure, and within UW-IT's private cloud
  • Collaboratively manage file, print, IIS, WSUS, MS SQL, Oracle, Sophos AV, Remote Desktop/App services
  • Author scripts and code used in the automated maintenance of the School's IT systems
  • Proactively manage, monitor, maintain, and document all systems
  • Create, manage, and maintain system documentation in conjunction with other infrastructure and operations team members
  • Liaise with vendors, UW-IT and other University of Washington and community partners
  • Manage incident response and problems effectively
  • Support technical elements of business continuity planning
  • Operations and maintenance of clinical systems platforms (axiUm, MiPACS, and other 2D and 3D imaging systems), including development and training environments
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA on all clinical systems
  • Act as the subject matter expert and the highest point of escalation of all I.T. security and technical issues in the School of Dentistry
  • Manage School of Dentistry networks, IP space, DNS, and Firewalls
  • Lead Network, Server, Service Desk and other operations and infrastructure-based projects
  • Use UW Medicine's risk assessment system to perform HIPAA risk assessments of I.T. systems and author components of the I.T. security plan, disaster recovery plan, business continuity plan, and business impact analysis
  • Meet with system and business owners to evaluate existing and planned systems and services to ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Design remediation solutions for security risks
  • Coach and mentor the core infrastructure and operations support team
  • Provide oversight to the I.T. service desk and backup their duties when required
  • Backup the I.T. Director’s duties as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management, or closely related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree
  • Experience (7+ years) in information technology working with the Microsoft platform client-server technologies
  • Progressive (5+ years) technical experience in network and systems administration, troubleshooting, automation and maintenance-related scripting or programming, and production support
  • Progressive (5+ years) Database administration experience to include Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Progressive (3+ years) technical experience in designing, implementing and supporting critical, high-availability systems
  • Progressive (3+ years) of experience participating in or leading IT projects

    DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working across diverse workgroups
  • Previous experience in a team lead role
  • Previous experience working with up-to-date software a University or Healthcare setting and providing guidance/instruction to faculty, staff and students
  • Previous experience with I.T. security methods
  • Building and maintaining a secure, highly-available, HIPAA and FERPA compliant infrastructure.
  • Current Microsoft, Oracle, and ITIL certifications

    Experience with the following technologies:
  • Managing Microsoft Azure environment
  • Microsoft server and client Operating systems through Server 2019/Windows 10
  • Supporting MacOS clients in an Active Directory / Windows environment
  • Microsoft server and client management using SCCM and/or InTune
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) - Including SSL Certificate knowledge
  • Microsoft SQL Analysis and Reporting Services installation and configuration
  • Configuration of Single Sign-On (SSO) using Shibboleth and/or other federated sign-on technologies
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft server and client operating systems including Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, OS deployment technologies, and desired state configuration
  • Microsoft PowerShell Scripting, VBScript, C#, etc.
  • Experience with Virtual Desktops/VDI technologies
  • Experience with ITIL based service management ticketing systems
  • Experience with Splunk or other logging and alerting systems
  • Experience with reporting tools like Tableau and PowerBI
  • Experience with interfacing with REST APIs
  • Knowledge of Health care (HIPAA) and Higher Education compliance concepts
