The Technical Content Strategist is a creative problem-solver with exceptional communication skills, responsible for managing the conceptual framework that sustains an increasingly complex content creation and distribution ecosystem. This role is highly collaborative and requires working with stakeholders within UWC² marketing and IT teams to develop processes, systems and taxonomies to manage the creation, publication and evaluation of content for the web. As a core member of the web team, the Technical Content Strategist will also act as product owner for our enterprise content management system (CMS) and as the champion and advocate for CMS users (writers, editors, designers and web production staff).


Content Strategy
  • Utilize enterprise Content Management System to create systems and processes to handle content in efficient and powerful ways. Responsible for ensuring that content is structured, organized so that it is discoverable, reusable, and consumable across platforms and channels (e.g., ready for automation and personalization).
  • Partnering with front-end content strategist and marketing leadership, develop scalable content models and taxonomies that allow for innovative, agile approaches to marketing and educational program development.
  • Establish and monitor search engine optimization strategies and guidelines. Work with senior developer to prioritize and rollout effective system- and page-level optimizations (e.g., making recommendations for use of structured data within existing content models).
  • Analyze existing content models, using native and third-party analytics tools.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of content in meeting organizational goals; report results to leadership and to content/editorial teams.

    CMS Product Owner
  • Actively participate in all CMS development meetings, including scrum stand-ups, sprint planning, and sprint retrospectives and other working sessions.
  • Work with marketing directors and web marketing project manager to maintain a prioritized backlog of tickets, issues, and epics.
  • Clarify test criteria and steps to reproduce errors.
  • Translate front-end feature requests into concise, straightforward requirements in collaboration with the (front-end) content strategist, web developer(s) and design team.
  • Define content requirements and develop content solutions.
  • Serve as web marketing liaison on cross-functional committees to ensure that changes in systems and databases across the organization are planned and accounted for in terms of impact on our content management systems.
  • Coordinate with UWC² IT on the integration of content management system with content development process.

    CMS User Support and Advocacy
  • Create and maintain content guidelines for content producers.
  • Develop process improvements for content development and maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate or reduce manual work for web production manager and content editors; build reports and tools to provide alternative, sortable views of content within our various systems.
  • Troubleshoot and identify bugs and errors seen by content editors; evaulate and explain impact on backend users in terms of efficiency, accuracy and other criteria in order to effectively prioritize fixes.

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, information management or a related field AND at least 5 years of professional work experience to include at least 3 years in a web- or marketing-related role.

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

  • Strong foundational systems thinking; well-versed in creative, analytical and research skills, along with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • A strong grasp of content strategy fundamentals and experience establishing pre- to post-production goals and objectives (e.g. content gap analysis, content plan, evaluation, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail, precision and ability to grasp technical concepts and the ability to translate complex concepts into plain language and/or basic wireframes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style, and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team. .
  • Proficiency in working with at least one enterprise-level content management system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of content taxonomies, information architecture, and metadata frameworks.
  • Understanding of digital marketing strategies and techniques including marketing communications, search engine optimization, conversion tracking and analytics.

  • Experience with Kentico CMS
  • Experience with or willingness to learn how to write SQL queries
  • Hands-on experience with information architecture, content taxonomies and metadata frameworks.
  • Experience implementing structured data (for search optimization).
  • Experience working within an agile/scrum-based web dev team, ideally in a product owner or other key decision-making role.
  • Experience collaborating with UX, content strategy, and front-end design roles.
  • Experience improving back-end usability of content management tools.
