UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups, as well as the separate Emergency Management team, are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
Maintenance & Construction: Moving Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Truck Driver Lead.
Under the direction of the Program Support Supervisor, provide lead oversight to moving operations staff assigned to the Moving and Surplus Program. Oversee positions that include Truck Driver 2s and Movers. This includes assisting the staff in the performance of their job responsibilities, providing training as necessary regarding vehicle operations, material handling equipment, and loading dock functions, and provide assistance and direction as needed associated with day-to-day operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Regularly assign, instruct and monitor work assignments for Truck Driver 2s and Movers. Schedule temporary workers as needed during absences or increased workloads.
• Review job requests, assign staff, and/or provide coverage for operational continuity. This requires driving vehicles and performing move jobs when substitutes are unavailable.
• Monitor program email, process online move requests, bring forward customer feedback for review and analysis by Program Support Supervisor and Moving & Surplus Manager.
• Provide estimates to University departments regarding necessary labor and equipment for moving services. Previewing and estimating time requirements for move jobs which may include contacting the moving vendor to perform jobs. Confirm work schedules with clients; at the direction of the Program Support Supervisor follow-up regarding service failures and/or other customer requests and/or concerns.
• Assist in scheduling vehicle maintenance, vehicle replacement, vehicle rentals, vehicle safety kits, and vehicle purchases. Oversee daily vehicle inspections and respond to vehicle repairs required and breakdowns. At the direction of the Program Support Supervisor, respond to safety incidences and vehicle accidents. Participate in incident investigations and operational emergencies, as needed.
• Participate in organizational, division, unit, and work group programs: Balanced Scorecard, Lean Process Improvement, and other business efforts in order to improve workplace practices and processes to add value to the services provided.
• Report move vendor problems to the Supervisor and/or Manager.
• Respond to:
o General requests for program or operational information.
o Requests for information/action from other Facilities Services units.
o Complaints from customers and drivers.
o Urgent moving needs.
• Provide operational support as needed to other Materials Management units and functions, including:
o Surplus store and warehouse
o Facilities Stores receiving, dispatch, expediting activities
• Safely operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, used in receiving and retail areas within the store and warehouse and when loading and unloading property.
• Review damaged and/or broken material handling equipment and recommend repair or replacements. Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Research and develop specifications and recommend purchases of equipment and supplies to improve the efficiency of the staff and daily operations. Maintain equipment inventory.
• Attend specified meetings as required.

Requirements include:
• High School graduation or equivalent
• AND two years of full-time experience as a Truck Driver or similar work OR equivalent education/experience;
• AND possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license with the ability to obtain intermediate or equivalent endorsement.
Additional requirements include:
• Excellent driving record – copy of commercial driving abstract will be required of all final candidates.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
• Lead experience and four (4) years commercial moving experience.
• Experience scheduling and dispatching
• Experience in team-building, staff motivation.
• Experience with environmental stewardship practices, such as waste reduction solutions and recycling methods
Conditions of Employment:
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with the air brake restriction removed OR ability to obtain within 120 days of employment.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Standard work schedule is: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.
• Pre-employment drug test is required coupled with participation in an ongoing random drug and alcohol testing program in compliance with Federal regulations.
• Work is normally performed in an interior warehouse environment and an interior office environment. However, program management may include outdoor work with exposure to the elements and variable weather conditions.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds unassisted and ability to lift/move 50 - 100+ pounds with assistance.
• Considerable field work is required.
• Work requires walking, lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
