UW Video has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary Utility/Audio Assistant (A2).
Utility/Audio Assistant (A2) is a "jack of all trades" assistant, helper or troubleshooter working alongside technicians (audio and video) during video shoots or broadcasts. Duties may include pulling or tending to camera cables, tripods, crowd control, carrying equipment, positioning microphones, lighting assembling/maintaining sound recording equipment, setting up communication and public address systems and participating in both event setup and strike. The Utility/A2 will ensure that any cables are kept clear of moving equipment, store materials, report technical faults they may find, and undertake basic technical maintenance tasks as required. They may operate sound/video equipment as necessary.
The A2/Utility is on site at crew call and are among the last to leave the venue after strike. Knowledge of sports production is not required but is helpful. Physical stamina and the ability to follow instructions is a key attribute for this position.
Typical Responsibilities:
• Take direction from A1/Engineers/Videographers/Producers
• Assemble, prepare and set up video equipment including cameras and lighting prior to production
• Assemble and operate teleprompter equipment
• Interact effectively on production locations with audio, production and editorial staff
• Run and tape down audio cables
• Set up of monitors and speakers
• Help A1 in positioning and rigging microphones
• Assist in performing sound checks
• Set up wireless mics and properly place on production talent
• Load and unload production gear
General Skills:
• Basic understanding of audio/video cabling and mixers
• Knowledge of proper safety protocol when setting up productions in public spaces
• Ability to bend, crawl and lift heavy gear up to 50 lbs.
• Must be reliable and show up on time for scheduled call times
• Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and as part of a team
• Ability to receive multiple instructions and carry out assignments in a timely manner
• Ability to manage audio and video cabling and successfully wrap cables in industry standard fashion without tangling cables
• Ability to successfully assemble and disassemble camera equipment
• Attention to detail and active listening skills are required to be successful
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School graduate degree required.
