UW Video is the University of Washington’s on-campus video and audio production department. UW Video currently has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Video & Network Specialist to support all aspects of audio and video production. In addition, he or she will design, budget, document, install, and test network, audio, and video systems for UW Video’s specific needs and for the needs of our clients.
This position will support all technical aspects of UW Video’s operations. These include supporting webcasts, remote and in-studio productions, athletics in-venue video board productions, campus video fiber infrastructure to and from Kane Hall, video editing suites and servers, and satellite/radio and broadcast transmission systems. The position requires that the successful candidate work both independently and as part of a team to successfully create and distribute high-quality educational video content.
The Video & Network Specialist will assist UW Video customers and will help ensure all video and IT systems are working smoothly within the organization. This will include streamlining some of the processes and equipment used in video productions. The position is critical to the effective execution of the work UW Video is contracted to perform on behalf of campus units. In addition, the position will support the work of our video production team, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues that arise in their work. This position will regularly work with clients, staff, faculty, students and vendors. This position may also interact with the University Regents, President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts and Heads of campus departments.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain all video and audio equipment including cameras, lenses, LED board control systems, graphics generators, fiber optic transmitters/receivers, video switchers, routers, intercoms, monitors, streaming encoders, patch panels, network switches, editing systems, satellite uplink/downlink facilities and Windows servers
- Act as the escalation point for all video equipment and signal flow issues
- Maintain Adobe Creative Cloud PC-based editing suites and Quantum Stornext SAN system
- Provide technical support for Husky TV campus cable television plant operations
- Prepare technical documentation for new, existing and modified audio, video and distribution systems
- Document and troubleshoot equipment failures and engage with vendors for repairs
- Configure and operate video production equipment for remote productions, web streams, lectures and live events
- Provide initial setup on new computers and be able to troubleshoot issues on existing computers
- Troubleshoot technical issues with production equipment including technical mentoring and provide hands-on support during high-profile events
- Create project budgets and cost estimates for installations, consultations, and maintenance activities
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 2 -3 years of work experience working with video switchers, routers, audio mixers and editing equipment
- Must be able to work in tight spaces and on ladders.
- Knowledge of digital video and web streaming including online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook Live, Twitter Periscope, and Wowza Streaming Engine.
- Experience with repair and troubleshooting of industry standard video and audio routing and control systems including routers, switchers, audio consoles, cameras, and remote control systems
- Familiarity with troubleshooting fiber optic & ethernet networks, network switches, KVMs, cable testers, and scopes/monitoring equipment
- Knowledge of video and audio signals for quality control for in-venue operations
- Knowledge of fiber optic and radio frequency video signal transmission systems
- Knowledge of basic computer operating systems and ability to troubleshoot issues
- Ability to be resourceful, research equipment documentation and solutions to problems, and be proactive in systems issues prevention and resolution
- Demonstrated expertise with audio, video, and networking test equipment
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
- Demonstrated ability to document work with technical drawings, spreadsheets, wire-lists, and schematics as required
- Familiarity with basic IP network protocols including DHCP, FTP, DNS, and RTMP
- Familiarity with audio and video industry standards such as SDI and HD-SDI video, AES EBU audio standards, DVB and MPEG 2/H.264 encoding
- Eagerness to learn as the industry emerges with new technologies.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and as part of a team
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, be on-call, support productions remotely as needed, and occasionally work special events that may occur on holidays or weekends.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
- 2+ years of experience in broadcast, post production, or other multimedia facility
- A+ computer certification or demonstrated equivalent knowledge
- Advanced Microsoft or Cisco certifications
- Knowledge of cable distribution systems
- Knowledge of radio and satellite transmission systems
- Knowledge of Daktronics scoreboard video systems
