Summary of Duties:
This position is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the data collection and storage infrastructure at the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health. These systems include SQL databases with health, genomic and laboratory data, an existing REDCap system, and a version control system. The Assistant Director will be heavily involved (25% to 50% of effort) in supporting the USAID-funded Discovery & Evolution of Emerging Pathogens – Viral Zoonoses (DEEP VZN) project. The position involves high level data engineering duties – working with faculty and research staff to evaluate their needs and suggest solutions, following best practices for research data collection, etc. Additionally, this position will provide managerial oversight for 1-3 technical staff within the Allen School as well as potential co-oversight of a technical position placed within the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Medicine Information Systems group. The position may involve periodic international travel.

Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field.

Understanding of SQL-based databases.

Excellent written and spoken English.

Effective presentation and interpersonal skills.

Willingness to travel internationally to support international project partners.
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of R, Python or other programing languages used in data analytics

Experience developing, deploying, or maintaining data infrastructure within a research environment including managing secure data systems handling sensitive information

Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems is a plus

Experience working on USAID or other U.S. government-funded programs.

Familiarity with REDCap and Git-based version control systems

Monthly Salary:
$8,632.74 - $10,531.94
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. This is a temporary position renewed annually. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
