Campus Safety Officer
Campus Safety officers are responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of Willamette University's students, employees, visitors and property during their assigned shift. They deal with all violations of law and campus policy in an appropriate and equitable manner and positively engage with diverse individuals and groups in support of an inclusive environment.
This position is responsible for responding to situations utilizing a set of well-defined policies, procedures and expectations. Must be able to perform duties with independence. Provides direction and supervision to work-study students but has no formal responsibility for supervision. Public relations are an important part of this position. Requires strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to exchange information with individuals both inside and outside the University. Requires an understanding of a culturally diverse community and the need to interact in a manner that fosters positive relationships in respectful, equitable and inclusive ways.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Work requires a response to safety/critical situations utilizing a set of well-defined policies, procedures, and expectations, where only unusual matters are elevated to the supervisor. May take action with a moderate degree of independence.

May perform work which typically requires knowledge of principles, concepts, systems, processes, and terminology.

Work may involve leading others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet minimum criteria for certification by the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, which requires candidates be 21 years of age, high school diploma or GED, and free from any felony criminal convictions.

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Minimum of two years’ experience in a security position (or two years college level law enforcement or criminal justice courses) required.

Valid Oregon Driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to be insured.
Preferred Qualifications

Customer service experience.

Experience working in a security-related field.

Experience working at a college or university.
Typical Work Schedule
12-hour shifts, 3 days one week and 4 days the next. Hours vary from nights to days.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Requires heavy physical effort, moving over 60 pounds, on an intermittent basis (less than 15% of the time). Requires high attention to detail or deadlines on an occasional basis (between 15% and 45% of the time). Work requires exposure to multiple disagreeable elements, at least three or more of which are intense, on an intermittent basis (less than 15% of the time).
Salary: $18/hour
