Bridge Engineer (Senior Engineer)

Compensation: $33.92-42.92 per hour DOE, plus benefits
There is one opening with the Yakima County - County Road Department, Road Maintenance Division. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the design, permitting, construction, and inspection and maintenance of the County’s bridge inventory.
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:

Performs engineering design and analysis of County bridge and other miscellaneous projects. Prepares Contract Documents and specification for projects. Obtains necessary environmental permits for projects.

Directs the selection and contracting of Private Consultants for necessary services in accordance with applicable County, State and Federal procurement regulations. Manages private Consultant Agreements by providing direction to the Consultant, reviewing Consultant Work product for compliance with the agreement scope, applicable design criteria and standards, and by reviewing consultant costs and progress for compliance with the agreement.

Prepares and/or reviews environmental documents and ensures supporting data is made available for review by permitting agencies.

Resolves construction problems arising from changed conditions, methods or materials. Analyzes contractor claims, recommends settlement strategies to County Engineer, reviews change orders and provides Engineering support to Construction Division Staff.

Respond to questions from contractors, public agencies and officials, or general public regarding policies, procedures, and practices.

Coordinates with utility companies for relocation of utility owned facilities.

Manages and directs the County bridge inspection and maintenance program in compliance with Federal and State requirements. Prepares Annual Bridge Resume for review by the County Engineer, County Commissioners and the Public.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering Field and Six years engineering experience, including two years in area specialty or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington. Applications will be accepted from registered engineers residing in another state, and appointments of such individuals shall be contingent upon obtaining the Washington State Registration within 6 months of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license is required at time of appointment.
- Successful completion of a general employment verification.
This is a Yakima County Clerical, Trades and Professional Bargaining Unit position.
Equipment Used: Computer and engineering software (must be proficient with a variety of traffic analysis software, roadway lighting software), vehicle, calculator, telephone, fax, copier, camera, measuring equipment and specialized bridge condition and construction monitoring equipment, passenger vehicle.
Working Conditions: Environmental Demands: exposure to weather, multiple work locations, field work.
Physical Demands: sitting, standing, walking, fingering, hearing, talking, visual acuity. Intellectual Demands: ability to multitask, confidentiality, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
